Video cameras have come a long way since we were kids. For one thing, they're much smaller. You don't need giant VHS cassette tapes; you can download your videos in a few moments, and send them out to the world or just grandma and grandpa via YouTube. See our top picks for documenting your little one, and please share yours!

I bought one and loved it. . . until I plugged it into my mac and had no audio in my videos. Apparently there is a glitch with some mac versions and since I didn't want to deal with a third party sort of patch, I decided to hold off - luckily my sister wanted one, so she bought it from me and so far so good with her PC.

We have the Flip Ultra. The size is great for bringing along. And you don't look like you're filming something, so it's a bit discreet. However, every so often a clip gets damaged and can't be downloaded. Not a big deal if it's just casual, fun stuff as opposed to, say, the birth of your child.

I don't know what the model number is, but anyway, we bought a Sony HDD-based HD cam when it was released, and it's our staple for full HD video of our child. It also takes pictures. Lots of the family gathering videos will be kept, and in the future, everything will be HD anyway, so it was a good investment.

We have a Flip and my husband uses it with our mac - I think there WAS a software glitch but he has done some troubleshooting and seems to have resolved it-

I have a flip something or other and so far, we love it. My kids (8 and 5) can use it to film things, we upload the files, and then share those files with far away grandparents.
My only issue is it doesn't have much of a zoom on it.

on other thing about the flip, it works better on laptops due to how the usb thing flips out. Unless you buy the adapter cables or prop it up in some way, it just dangles off the usb port and looks like it'll break.

Yes, love the flip ultra. Most new digital cameras will also let you take up to an hour long videos ($200-300 range), but you can't beat the flip for ease of use and "kid" friendly-ness.

We love our flip and works perfectly on both mac and pc for us. Perfect for short clips of kids and has a great function that allows you to email a private and secure video link to family for viewing.

I have a Cannon Digital Elph that does small video clips. What does this camcorder do that my camera doesn't? It's cute. I'd love an excuse to buy it :-)

We have the RCA Small Wonder - similar to the FLIP and we love it (and we are Mac ppl).

I have a Canon G9. It's a high end point and shoot, but it takes fantastic videos. With a four gig SD card, I can shoot close to an hour of video.
