1,000 Days Journal

For those of us who process life through writing, it doesn't take long to decide to journal about your baby's first few years. But most of the journals made for this purpose are just a little too obvious about it with cartoonish pictures or overly ornate pages. But the search is over-we found The First 1,000 Days Journal.

The First 1,000 Days Journal is the creation of artist Nikki McClure of Washington state. It's a joy to flip through and see paper cut illustrations like this one, and there's still plenty of room to write.

We couldn't ask for a prettier way for busy parents to preserve their thoughts and slow down and cherish the fleeting moments with baby. This is a treasure you can pass down to your kids when they're older and don't believe you were ever young like them. It's a perfect shower gift for those who like to write and it's available online at one of our favorite neighborhood stores, Rare Device.

We have Nikki's original papercuts all over house. She's a local girl who we got to know back before she became an international artist (when she was on my partner's soccer team). Her other nursery book is, "From Awake to Nap." It's available on a site featuring several local artists, and of course, all things Nikki: http://www.buyolympia.com/q/Item=awaketonap
