A collective of nouns. We happen to have An Exaltation of Larks by James Lipton (yes, of Inside the Actors Studio fame) out from the library right now (and, yes, it's overdue). It's a book about collective nouns - a collection or group like a gaggle of geese, a flock of sheep, etc. So it was a happy coincidence to discover that Etsy seller SmackofJellyfish, digs collective nouns, too.
We've always thought collective nouns were inventive, clever and, sometimes, downright poetic. As with most things animal, they also really appeal to kids.
SmackofJellyfish has made an A-Z card set depicting animal collective nouns, from An Army of Ants to a Zeal of Zebras. She sells them for $3.50 each or the full set of 26 for $65. She's also started to branch out and sell them mounted on foam board for display and on tote bags, onesies and tshirts.
Visit her Etsy shop or website to see if your child's favorite animal collective is depicted.

Patricia Reeder Eubank's book Just Where You Belong is a great story for children using collective nouns. My favorites from the book are prickle of porcupines, conflagration of fireflies and a crash of rhinos.
