Kate sent us a great question: Do you have any good ideas for a picture wall? My 2 year old LOVES to look at family pictures and name the people in them. Right now they're just taped to the fridge, but I'd love to have a cute way to display them for him.
We love decorating with family photos and we have a few ideas...
For something toddler friendly, how about using magnetic paint in a small area of a wall in his room, and making the photos into Personalized Magnets from Shutterfly?
We're also big fans of this Frame Wallpaper from Graham and Brown. (see pic above) You could do one wall of your home or his room with this wallpaper and he can move the pictures around inside the "frames".
Another idea- make a Photo Mobile.
These last two won't necessarily be hanging up, but they will provide lots of fun using those photos. Check out our previous posts on Goosie Cards and Project Alphabet. These companies will let him interact with the photos.
Ohdeedoh readers- share your own family photo ideas!
we have a picture wall at the foot of our stairs that helps us to see family and friends. we use the small, cheap ikea frames and have hung them in columns using hooks and eyes that we found in a hardware store. we cut a simple mat for each picture from black card stock. it makes one big impression while keeping the pictures more uniform and can easily grow - we just add a row when we collect more pictures. you can see it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/10806782@N08/2420432669/

My wife and I are expecting, so we did a free-form photowall over the changing table, with Olivia wall stickers from Target to sort of tie them together into a "friend/family tree". Here's a pic:

We printed the pictures on Post-It photo paper, so it's easy to arrange them however we want.

Stores like Michael's carry magnetic frames for 4 x6 prints which I put on a small magnet board in my son's room along with his art (you can buy the simpler styles with just a graphic print as the frame). They're too casual for the rest of the house but perfect for his room and we can change them out easily.

You could do a clothesline with photos hung across it. If you want to laminate the photos then your kiddos can take them down, play with them and rearrange them as they wish!

I have the bottom part of my fridge dedicated to magnets of family and friends that my daughter doesn't get to see too often. Instead of the shutterfly magnets, I used cafepress' magnets. They're cheaper and super durable (enough to stand up to a baby and toddler's abuse)! She loves playing with the magnets and I don't have to worry about her bending them, spilling anything on them, or swallowing any little pieces.
Here's the magnet I'm referring to:

It also comes in a round magnet.

ok, not a display idea, but I made photo books of family for my kids at that age. Just extra photo prints in a 99ยข cheapy photo book, but you could also do the snapbooks at Shutterfly. Anyway, they LOVED them -- carried around with them *everywhere* for the longest time.

I had a similar idea but in the end I couldn't help myself and made my own design (I trained as a sculptor) and now I cast them at home in my garage http://www.curator.com.au they stick on the wall with a low tack adhesive so you can move them around without damaging the wall and it's really easy to swap the photos around - let me know what you think..
