apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Roadside Projects by Jayme McGowan

When Jayme McGowan was trying to quit smoking a few years back she used scissor therapy to distract her idle hands: I started with a 2 foot square panel of wood, a stack of old books from the thrift store, a pair of scissors, and a bottle of Elmers.

We came across Jayme's work in the most recent Small Magazine (lovely as always) and were captivated by the world she's created with her three dimensional paper art pieces. You want to step right into them, travel around and meet some interesting characters.

Apropos to Escapes month at AT, a strong theme throughout Jayme's work is the road - journeys, voyages, and roadside attractions like the circus and the gypsy fortune teller. She crafts her stories with paper, glue and ink inside oval box frames and sells the originals as well as prints.

You can see her works-in-progress on her blog, Roadside Projects (where you'll also learn of shop updates) and you can purchase her work through her Etsy shop. Enjoy!

Jayme's work in Small Magazine is just gorgeous and her etsy shop is filled with tons of must haves. I think that her work is delightful and whimsical - great for children and adults. If you haven't seen Small Magazine you should check it out. It's an on line magazine and it's free to suscribe. I am still getting used to reading a magazine on line, but it's worth the effort!
