Tired of A is for Apple? The parenting duo behind the blog Sweet Juniper has created their own city-inspired ABC book.
As they point out, most urban kids are more familiar with graffitti than they are with nests, giraffes, and zebras—so why not use the images they see every day, instead of farm and zoo icons only seen in picture books?
The resulting photos are posted on their
blog, and they've very nicely offered the use of the images to anyone who'd like to print and make a book for their child.
Or why not make your own? A great activity for both parent and child, we think it'd be fun to walk around your neighborhood snapping pictures for your own alphabet book—whether your A's stand for apples or asphalt.
Some good soul posted the book on lulu, available at cost.
Oh my goodness, I adore the Q for Quixote.
that is so cool. i'm actually working on publishing a similar urban-photography-alphabet project with my 2nd graders.
it's my book and I'm also the one who posted it to lulu for no profit. street art is a gift from the artist to everyone and it seemed like a pretty shitty thing to try to make money from it.
The lulu book is available for like $9.00 here:
