It's been just over a year since we mentioned the wireless and rechargeable gaming console — Swinxs. It boasts free downloadable games, ability to expand up to 10 players, a water-resistant shell and true interaction between it's players. It's now an award winning toy, but have any of us actually played with one yet?
The unit boasts the ability to make your children interact with each other, inside the home and out. Wristbands worn by each child communicate with the unit to monitor their game play. In theory, the unit looks amazing, but we just don't see it surpassing the Wii in coolness points any time soon (although it would be nice to be sore from playing outside instead of from Wii tennis). The kids in the photos above seem to be having a blast, but have you had a chance to participate in play with one since their release?

We play! I am a Brit living in the US now. We brought our Swinxs two years ago from a toy store in England for our then five year old son, and it is the most well traveled toy we have. We have taken it on planes (it is great for long airport waits!) we took it on holiday to Mexico this year and in the car. It is light enough for hand luggage it weighs next to nothing and it is hardy enough for the odd bounce and bash. My son L.O.V.E.S Swinxs Dash. But from one parent to another, this is no electronic babysitter, I find it is best played with adult supervision, especially boys this age. Also, I wish they had added a headphone socket because believe me after the fifteenth round of fly swatter played back-to-back in the car you will be ready to swat Mr Swinxs himself! All in all though a thumbs up. Funnily enough I have not seen it in Toys R'Us or anywhere for that matter. So I checked out the website you can apparently buy it from amazon.com over here.

We got our Swinxs a couple weeks ago - and I have to say, my kids are the envy of the block! They absolutely love it. I love how it organizes all the games - it also picks who goes first based on the colour of the wristband - No fighting!!! It is simple enough that my 3 year old can play, yet fun enough that my 8 and 10 year olds want to play as well.
I love that it is portable, so we can take it with us - and it really engages the kids in a physical activity - which helps to bring them together.
I highly recommend the Swinxs!!

I won a Swinxs just a few months ago, and thought I'd give my input.
My son enjoys it very much, and played with it solo for a long time when we first got it. It got us as a family moving around and having fun.
I think the key would be to have a few friends to play it with and then it would be even better.
But even at 3 years old, my son enjoyed it.
Would I buy it if it was at a friends house and I saw it, likely not. The price tag is a little steep for us. Not to mention the fact that we are a Mac family and it only apparently hooks up to Windows computers.
But in the summertime, it should be great to play in the backyard with!
