David Netto Sells NettoCollection to Maclaren

6-23-netto.jpgWhile many may consider the children's furnishings world a sleepy backwater, business has, in fact, been booming during the past decade. One person who has ridden the wave is David Netto, who's luxe NettoCollection line of cribs and changing tables set the standard for the Bugaboo set - those who have money and prefer modern to frilly traditional. In the process, he inspired a host of imitators as well.

Last week David cashed out, selling NettoCollection to Maclaren. David is said to be staying involved, and Maclaren seems to be seriously amping up their brand in the USA to become much more than a stroller company. Maclaren diapers, anyone?

Argington & Casa Kids
Brooklyn Designs 2009

5-13-brooklyndesigns.jpg

bklyndesigns.jpgBrooklyn Designs was a bit smaller this year overall, but it was bigger for two exhibitors: Argington and Casa Kids by Roberto Gil. These two had big spaces which were outside the hall and facing the street, making it easy to see their new stuff. While we don't generally feature folks we've featured before (we look for new stuff), these two had some really nice new designs for design minded parents....

Look! Penguins at the Central Park Zoo

We've just come back from visiting the Central Park Zoo (NYC) and - as a dad - it's the first time I've been since I was a child. What a remarkable little zoo! And how nice to find myself going back now escorting my own child and seeing the wonder in her eyes....

Look! The Wild Things Movie

Holy Cow, this started to make me tear up....And, OH, the decor possibilities...

How To: Make an Oreo Cake

2009_02_05-OreoCake.jpgOK, Eating Light month is safely over, so now we can get back to telling you about sugary desserts and chocolate decadence. All in moderation, of course. Take this Oreo Cake, for instance. You really don't want to have more than a little slice; it will spike your blood sugar so hard! But just a little slice is plenty, especially for those of you who love Oreos. Here's how to make it...

Bholu: Housewares and Toys

2-4-bholu3.jpgNew at the Gift Fair this year, Bholu was a breath of fresh air visually and emotionally. This new company, was founded by Australian, Jodie Fried, and carries a lovely, light design sensibility as well as a noble mission: to be a Fair Trade and Climate Neutral Company which designs in Australia but manufactures and supports local community in India... Big Sale: Entertaining Elephants

shapeimage_15.jpgWe don't normally write an entire post on one store's sale news, but Entertaining Elephants is a favorite. Located in Los Angeles, it's small but it has great style and a hearty online presence. Whenever we're in Los Angeles we go go go. And do you know where the name of the store comes from? Answer is below the jump....

"For the final week of our winter sale we're giving an additional 20% off all sale items! (So 20% off is really 40% off 40% of is now 60% off!)" >> Entertaining Elephants
