Our friend Sara is getting ready for her baby's arrival and wants to know your favorite gentle products: I'm really into all natural products- especially without parabens. But I'm even worried that some of the all-natural products will have too many natural oils/ingredients that are too strong for baby.
I've looked at a few brands, but was just wondering if experienced parents could say what worked for them and was really gentle/fragrance-free? Thanks.
Well, we've blogged about a couple of all natural products here at Ohdeedoh including products from Baby Bear Shop as well as Veda Baby, so those are two you might want to check out.
A few of our other favorites: Weleda, Erbaviva, Little Twig, and California Baby. We haven't tried it, but we've heard so many good things about Dr. Bronner's, we're wondering if their Baby Mild Liquid Soap might be another more affordable, versatile option.
I use Naturally Baby's Lime and Mint body wash and like it a lot. Smells nice and is very gentle.

We love Dr. Bronnners, especially the unscented baby mild. Also, if you look around your town, there are often locally made natural and/or organic products that are more mild than the mainstream ones because they don't have the additives to lengthen shelf life. The additional perks to buying local are (obviously) supporting your local economy and lowering your carbon footprint, as well as, knowing just where the product was grown and who made it.

california baby is my fave!

We originally bought the Weleda baby wash because I used the baby lotion and oil throughout my pregnancy. It was too drying, so I returned it and got Little Star Baby Wash which I like better and has fewer ingredients. It is technically "fragrance free" because it doesn't contain fragrance, per se, but it does have some essential oils in it. However, if I were to do it again, I would just buy the Dr. Bronner's baby soap.
I also bought the Little Star lotion and like it just fine. I thought we would be slathering the baby with lotion, but I have only used it once on her and once when I forgot to pack my face moisturizer (worked great).
Regular body oils would work as well, though I have heard to avoid nut oils and try something like jojoba or avocado instead (for allergy reasons).
Good Luck and Congrats!

BuddabellyMum--Which California Baby products in particular? I was looking at their products yesterday and wasn't quite sure what to choose. Aren't you supposed to use unscented products on newborns? Maybe the store I was in was just out of certain varieties.
This is something I'm trying to decide on right now, which soap for the laundry, and which toiletries for the baby. It's confusing! Aveeno has some unscented products. And I've always loved Dr Bronners, but didn't know they had a baby product.

We use Earth Mama Angel Baby lotion (http://www.queenbabybean.com/item.php?item_id=373&category_id=61href>) and shampoo/body wash (http://www.queenbabybean.com/item.php?item_id=371&category_id=61href>). They have no artificial fragrances and paraben free - really awesome stuff!! The lotion makes baby smell like an orange-cicle! :)

We used California Baby until our pediatrician freaked us out about a possible link between the lavender in it and breast growth in boys (!). Hopefully, this has been debunked. Now we're using Burt's Bees all-in-one baby wash because of its lack of phthalates.

The products we get from our local store has a line of fragrance free California Baby products. It's the Super Sensitive line. Look on their website they have them all listed there!

We use a combination of Dr. Bronner's Lavender (only now that my girls are 2 and 4, when they were babies it was the Baby Unscented) and California Baby. I love the lavender California Baby, but we have used the unscented/sensitive skin line and it is great. We also use their sunscreen. I very highly recommend California Baby products!

Shux: I was actually just reading about the link from lavender to breast growth in boys and apparently it was based on only 3 cases studied (which doesn't even qualify as a scientific study). I did some research on it since I had heard the same thing (though not from my doctor) and of course being a new mom, I was super freaked out even though I don't have boys. Anyway, I think that has been debunked.

If you are truly concerned, skip all products. Your baby doesn't really need a bath all that often until they are eating solids/crawling and until then, just water is good enough. For diaper rash, we have used calendula cream (made in Washington State) and/or Weleda's diaper ointment. I took a baby message class and the teacher used food oils, I brought Little Twig's and really liked it. Now that our baby is total mess and we're bathing him every night, we use Little Twig which none of us are allergic to (I have super sensitive skin) and smells really nice. You could probably get something a little cheaper, but I love how our baby's hair smells afterward and I am a sucker for adorable bugs on the packages.

My daughter-in-law used Aveeno baby wash on the baby. I loved how she smelled so much that I bought some to use for myself when I was really missing her ... and now she's five. I still occasionally bathe in it because it is such a happy memory.

Lavera's baby neutral product line is awesome, totally awesome. very gentle, unscented. It's the only thing that we've used that doesn't aggravate his eczema. Also we use pure shea butter, and occasionally pure lanolin (in the winter).
In my experience, German certified organic brands tend to be pretty pure.
Good luck and congratulations!

california baby.
most natural lines use almond oil in their products -- Burt's Bees, Weleda... others... -- and our daughter was diagnosed with a nut allergy. Our allergist said she may have been sensitized to nuts by using a nut products (particularly an unrefined one) on a daily basis, and so my advice is to place it safe.
California Baby is a fantastic line, and uses no nut oils
(the advice is to avoid scented products for the first couple of months -- but a few drops of lavender oil in the diaper wipe solution and such is fine...)

I really liked Burt's Bees all-in-one until my daughter developed an allergy to it. Now she breaks out any time we use it.
Anyone tried the Method baby wash? I want to try that next.

We, too are great fans of the California Baby sensitive line. I also like the sunscreen.
We also did massage with Burt's Bee's apricot oil every night after bath. And used Burt's Bee's diaper cream in great quantities.
Many of the German products are actually highly scented (French brands like Mustela, also). My son (now toddler-age) has a mild reaction to the Twig line.
One question about Dr Bronner's for babes -- is it tear-free? That's a very important consideration.

We use the unscented California Baby. Very, very gentle. I dislike most scented products but I do like their chamomille bubble bath. It was shipped to us by mistake one time.
We also like the unscented Avalon Organics lotion. Prior to finding, we the unscented Aveeno. It worked well but I prefer something not based on petroleum.
