Munchkin Safety Bath Ducky

3-26-ducky2.jpgThe rubber ducky still rules.

This is a silly little thing, but we had to blog it. We got this little rubber ducky as a gift (its real name is the Munchkin Safety Bath Ducky). It floats in the tub and has a "White Hot" safety disc at the bottom that tells you when the water is too hot in the tub, which turns out to be useful, because depending on how hot or cold we are, water temperature can be really hard to gauge at first - esp when you are a new parent and scared of shocking the little thing.

BUT THE BEST thing is that our baby goes nuts when she sees it in the tub and starts reaching for it and sucking on it immediately. It's hilarious and sweet to see the power of the Duckie. Oh, and the other best thing is that it only costs $3.

This may seem like a silly question but does anyone out there have suggestions for getting mold out of the inside of rubber duckies? We try to squeeze ours out after each bath but while we were away on vacation, they turned green on the inside! Now, when we squeeze them lots of green flakes come out - yuck! We have tried soaking them and squeezing them over and over but I am afraid we might have to throw them away.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Ew, sarahwg, no that has never happened to me. I would probably toss them.

My 3 year old has a delightful collection of bath toys, including rubber duckies, turtles, fish, etc. But for the last couple months he's been getting sponge baths cuz he is suddenly of baths and won't go anywhere near the tub if there's water in it. This is getting old. Any suggestions?

i have experienced the mold problem and just chucked the offenders. i wish i had something better to offer, but it seemed impossible to get the gunk out of those little squeezey bath toys. but i have this exact safety ducky, and my problem with it is that the "hot" on the bottom has gotten progressively and permanently whiter. so the change between where the lettering starts out and the whitening if the water is too hot is very subtle. has this happened to anyone else? i guess i should just follow my own advice and chuck this too?

Another great feature of the Munchkin Safety duck, our boy loves his as well, is that it has NO openings and thus doesn't get mold inside.
