Follow-Up: Kristen's Homemade Nursery Bedding

2007-10-16-kristen1

Remember Kristen's Good Question about coordinating fabrics for her Apples & Pears pattern? Well, she recently wrote to us with an update on her project (and to let us know that Annabelle has arrived!). Check out the pics...

Kristen made the crib skirt, bumper, quilt, and throw pillows for Annie's nursery.

The quilt will fit a toddler bed so they are saving it for later. Great job, Kristen!

See Kristen's original question here.

This looks great!
I am about to start sewing bedding for our own baby and am wondering if Kristen ended up using the Simplicity 9315 sewing pattern recommended when she posed her original question. Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi egriffny-

I actually didn't use a pattern. What I did was use the standard crib measurements and basically make a pattern from there. I will try to put up a post on my husband's blog tonight with more details, including measurement and stuff. For now, you can checkout more pics on our flickr page. www.flickr.com/kirbylou

This is so pretty. But, please do not put your baby to sleep in a crib with bumper pads, stuffed animals or blankets. Most SIDS deaths are actually suffocations.

Again - beautiful nursery!

chairgal--

annie doesn't actually sleep in her crib right now, but thanks for the advice! when she does start sleeping in it, we will definitely not be using any blankets or throw pillows.

Looks great! I love that apple-and-pear fabric, too. I used it recently (in a different color) for a dress for my almost 3 year old. You can see it here: http://pennycarnival.typepad.com/penny_carnival/2008/05/homemade-love.html
Congratulations on the arrival of the bambina.

Yes, great job. What beautiful heirlooms these will be, too.

Is that the Ikea Gulliver crib? I bought a crib skirt for ours and it seemed like it wouldn't work (couldn't get it between the bottom platform and the crib sides). Maybe I was doing something wrong!

We use the Gulliver and had no problem making a crib skirt to fit. There is a small gap that allows the crib skirt.

Before you use those bumpers, please read the following 2 articles in order to ensure that you will be making an informed choice.
