Hot or Not? Crib Fringe

2009-05-04-fringe.jpg

We like to think we're on top of new nursery trends, but we recently saw something called "crib fringe" at Target and weren't sure what to make of it. It's marketed as an alternative to crib bumpers for people who want to add embellishment to their cribs. We do like fabric banners for birthdays and as room decor, but our mental jury is still out on this one. Weigh in below.

i didn't realize crib bumpers were an embellishment... i always thought it was padding to keep baby's noggin from getting bumped and bruised during nighttime rollaround sessions. and the people who argue that crib bumpers aren't safe will have a field day with "crib fringe"!!!

Hot, I think. Very similar to all the party bundtings we're seeing out there lately.

Hot. We were actually going to purchase this set and changed our mind last minute.

I would rather buy the actual fabric banners for the child's room--it seems like it would have more staying power and you could always turn it into a birthday or celebration banner if the decor/color scheme changes...

Hot...but maybe not. Great looking, but I agree with my*life about the safety issues.

I am one of those people who likes the way our crib itself looks and prefer to have as little stuff on it as possible (just a crib sheet in our case since bumpers seemed to be a safety issue).

I was just telling a friend that when I one day have baby #2, I am not buying some overpriced crib bedding set. I bought a set with a dust ruffle, bumper, fitted sheet and quilt. Other than the sheet, all of it is pointless. The fringe seems like another pointless thing added to crib sets.

Next time I'm just going to buy some nice fleece crib sheets and some t-shirt material crib sheets and a breathable bumper. That's all I've used so far.

Seems like the "fringe" could somehow get untied and be a strangulation hazard. Not that I'm a paranoid superfreak, but still. So, NOT!

Honestly, I'd love it if some one made me one as a gift, or if I sewed it myself. I would never PAY for it.

Bumpers aren't for decoration. Bumpers are used for shielding the baby from bumping her head on the railings of the crib.

I don't like the idea of this because, as with the bumper, there is a strangulation risk. My 6-month-old has a very boring crib: a fitted sheet and her quilt. And I know that she shouldn't even have the quilt, but she loves to be tucked around her waist.

I hope that parents (especially ones of first borns) have common sense to not partake in this trend.

Gosh, how did I ever survive my own childhood without such accoutrements?

What next? Diaper Genie cozies? We'll leave no space undecorated in today's child's nursery! Ha ha!

Silly and probably a strangulation risk.

I wish people would get over the need to make their cribs look like stuffed animals. Babies need a sheet.

I would not use this flag deal on any crib. It is of no use and all the risk of a disaster. I design nurseries and am always surprised when I see someone doing a "fun" thing to a crib or near to the crib that can be dangerous. These are not dolls in the crib, but, a real baby that will pull and want to suck on the points of the flags. For so many reasons, this a a bad idea.

That diaper genie dress is so wrong! The next thing you know, they'll make it look like one of those scary hide and seek corner dolls.
