Secure2Me Blankets

We are sun worshippers but we do it safely. Any product that offers protection for our little one interests us; and if it's well-designed and convenient all the better.

So we gave the Secure2Me Eclipse Solarveil blanket a try last week. Amy Long, creator and owner of Secure2Me, designed this line of blankets to attach to any stroller, baby carrier or car seat.

Each blanket is trapezoidal in shape with four clips on the corners to keep it in place.

We tested the Solarveil on both of our strollers and the car seat.

What we like: The Solarveil is light weight and folds down to nothing so you can tuck it away anymore and always have it handy. The sizing is perfect and the clips secure well. (Prior to using the Solarveil, we used a stroller blanket and a combination of hair and binder clips to attach it to the stroller canopy.) The double-layered Solarveil fabric seemed to offer good sun protection (the site says 90-95% UVA and UVB rays blocked). It's reasonably priced at $29.

Some suggestions: We used the Solarveil to block the sun from baby's legs and feet mainly. The Solarveil isn't see through so he wouldn't stand for it blocking his view. However, one of our biggest problems is the sun beaming down into the stroller canopy and into his eyes. A younger infant might be fine with it though. Also, the fabric isn't overwhelmingly attractive.

Secure2Me has a wide range of blankets in varying designs and fabric weights. Although we didn't test it this way, we can see it being very convenient to cover a baby carrier or as a nursing cover. Go here to view the entire collection.

my girlfriend had a sling made in solarveil fabric for the impending summer months. its a light green shade and not bad as far as attractiveness goes. a little scratchy maybe. though its strong and light. seems like it will get the job done.

Personally, I think this is a bit overboard in regard to sun protection. You can't always cover your kids from head-to-toe to protect them from every ray of sunshine. I posted photos of the handmade shade I sewed for my newborn's stroller at my blog: http://laziestjane.blogspot.com/

It keeps the sun out (while still allowing him movement within the stroller) for the really bright days.
