When we first caught a glimpse of the Slouchback (that's the massive pillow like device above) we weren't sold on it. It felt ginormous and awkward, but the more we wanted to hate it — the more we really started to fall in love with it. See why after the jump!
We wanted to tell you this was the most oversized, ridiculous product we'd seen in quite some time. Then we visited a friends house for game night/play date and found ourselves quickly propped on a spare bed in their basement while we corralled children and did our best to not be the worst one at Trivial Pursuit.
It should have been comfortable. A bed, turned sideways against a wall with a ridiculous amount of pillows, sounds like a perfect napping spot and we're sure it probably is. But for doing functional things, like trying not to spill your carrot sticks and dip while adding a pink piece to our pie... let's just say we were struggling.

As much as our first thoughts turned towards frustrations with this product, we're actually quite curious to try it. The Slouchback inflates in 30 seconds flat with a built in air pump and deflates in the same amount of time. It can be stored against the wall and the bed, ready for whatever your kids (or adults with small spaces) have to throw at it. Are they playing video games in bed? Watching a movie? Having an all day Harry Potter-reading marathon?
The Slouchback retails for $99 and has interchangeable covers in 6 different colors. There's also two videos on their website of the set up and cover changing experience (for those who aren't as convinced as us!).
Would this have a place in your home? Let us know in the comments below!

I'd love to have this!!! Growing up we used to have something similar, but just for one person! It would make reading in bed so much easier!

As the inventor of the SlouchBack your article scared me at first but I am happy to read that you recognized the comfort the SlouchBack provides. However I think you will be much more impressed when you actually try it!
Thanks for your honest opinion

As an all-hours nursing mom, I am drooling over the comfort this must provide. Oy my aching back!
You know what kills it for me though? The "Slouch back" logos on the cup holders...well, and the cup holders themselves. They cheapen it for me. Aside from that, I can see how good it would feel to lean back while my son goes for another marathon of 1-3am cluster feedings.

I had a pillow-for-one that was alot like this ( I called it a Husband pillow- don't know if I made that up) and I LOVED it. It was great for sitting up activities in bed, and for when I needed to sleep with my head elevated due to sinus stuff. What I didn't like was finding a spot to store it when I didn't want it on my bed- looks like the Slouchback has solved that problem! I do agree with pxlchk1 about the cupholders, though- too reminiscent of Beer coozies- blecch! I would definitely consider buying this if I had bed that needed to do double duty as a sitting area!

I like that it is inflatable/collapsible. Neat idea!

I like that you also recognize a very important truth--daybeds are VERY uncomfortable, no matter how many pillows you have.

Hello costumista and pxlchk1,
Thank you for your great comments, I understand your concern about the cup holders "cheapen it for me." The original model did not have them, and it was not until 95% of our testers requested that they have cup holders after day one of a four month study. They have since have been toted as one of the greatest feature as they are always in reach, and provide a great spot for pens, calculators, cell phones, remotes and of course a drink.
However, I will take your comments and work them into our future plans as it upsets me to know someone would not get to experience the comforts of the SlouchBack because of a simple additional comfort.
Again thank you very much for your candid thoughts.
Andrew

pxlchk1!! That would be brilliant! I am expecting in a few weeks, and those night time feedings are definitely daunting!
I am facing a C-section, so will likely be spending a fair amount of time in bed recovering, this would be nice for that as well!!!

Andrew, maybe the cup holders could be removable with some hook and loop tape (velcro) so those that want it can have it and those that don't can simply take it off or have something interchangable like a pocket for a remote.

Not sure about making the cup holders removable, however lots of moms have told us their perfect for holding the baby bottle while burping their baby.

Cool idea! I could have really used this in my last teeny tiny apartment.
