Best Product: Philips DECT Monitor

Monitor your baby in style with the Philips DECT digital technology monitor.

DECT (or Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication) provides a secure connection with no interference from other devices such as cordless phones or cell phones by automatically

choosing an unused channel (there are 120) and switching as it detects another device using the same channel.

That means no more eavesdropping on your neighbor's calls.

You can set the sensitivity of the microphone to pick up every sigh and chirp, or adjust it downward to only detect something louder. The parent unit allows you to turn on/off the nightlight or play lullabies for baby - all remotely. Another handy feature allows you to talk to baby remotely, soothing him from afar. Both the monitor and parent unit provide a temperature display as well.

On the downside the nightlight isn't bright enough to be practical. Also, the buttons on the monitor unit aren't backlit so you have to guess in the dark or commit the functions to memory. And the price is a bit hefty.

The Philips monitor is good looking and works well with the modern nursery. You can pick one up at Sparkability and elsewhere for $199.

Downside is that the battery life on this is less than the length of a good movie, so have to keep the charger base with you. This may be a function of the fact that it has very good pick up of sound, but it needs to be turned up quite loud in order to hear smaller noises. The intercom is a lifesaver!
