Roundup: New at Ikea

Ikea-top.jpgLast week's posts about Ikea finds and Maya's Ikea nursery tour got us primed and ready for the telltale thwack of the new Ikea catalog hitting the front step. We headed straight for the kids' stuff, of course, and were happy to see some exciting brand-new items, some of which we think are destined to become Ikea classics. Check out our favorites below the jump.

Ikea-Gasell-chair.jpg
A new toddler seat! We're definitely feeling the Arne Jacobsen vibe of the Gasell chair ($34.99). If you're a fan of the Antilop highchair and looking to graduate to a model for bigger kids, this could be the one.

Ikea-Leka-play-gym.jpg
The Leka baby gym ($24.99) is Ikea's entry into play mat territory. We love its simplicity and fun-without-being-jarring colors, and find ourselves wishing (again) that Ikea designed exersaucers.

Ikea-Noje-boxes.jpg
If you covet SkipHop's Bin-Go but need a cheaper alternative to foldable fabric storage boxes, these Noje boxes ($7.99 for a set of three) might fit the bill.

Ikea-Fabler-and-Blimp.jpg
More on the storage front: at just over four feet tall, the Fabler Groda wall pocket ($9.99) is just the right size for storing lots of kid-related ephemera. We like the fact that it's suspended by hook and loop fastener that opens if a child tries to climb up.

We're still mulling over the aesthetics of this one, but we definitely like the idea of creating a mini-planetarium inside your own home. The Blimp pendant lamp ($29.99) creates light patterns of moons, stars and planets in a room. (Zeppelin albums not included.)

Ikea-Duktig-cookware.jpg
If your child is one of those kids who demands verisimilitude in their pretend play, this four-piece set of Duktig play cookware ($9.99) is made of stainless steel and pleasingly realistic.

And in related news:

  • The Antilop highchair ($19.99) is now available in red or navy blue.
  • The Rusig rocker ($9.99) now comes in black and looks almost disturbingly Darth Vader-esque.
  • The Mala easel has had its price cut from $29.99 to $19.99 (for Canadian Ikea customers only, for some reason), making it an amazing value for your money.

I bought two of the Mala easel @ $19.99 a piece in Ohio for my friend's two olds birthday party. They (the parents)seemed to really enjoy them and hopefully the kids did too.

i bought that easel a couple of years ago at $19.99 and it was such a good deal. exactly the same easels by other manufacturers cost 5 to 10 times as much. They're usually sold out at the Ikea I go to.

I got the easel a yer ago at Atlanta Ikea for 19.99. My kids love it. The hinges were kind of weak, but my husband replaced them when they broke and it is good as new. We love it!

I saw the Gasell in person last week. It definitely is a great match for any white bentwood/chrome dining set. Tiny footprint too!

I'm excited that they re-introduced the Blimp space light. It was discontinued at about the same time I decided on a vintage-y space theme for my baby's room. It's a bit plastic, but I know he's going to love the light show.

I have had the Antilop high chair for almost 3 years. Such a small footprint and enjoyable to look at. Those huge "lazyboy" recliner type high chairs are CrAzY!

we just bought the antilope high chair in red...inexplicably, the tray that comes with it only comes in white. i.e., no matching red tray for a red chair. i personally would have preferred a matching red tray, but hey. not too bad for around 25 bucks. :)
