Tag Along Stroller Handle

111309-handle.jpg Awhile back we featured this purple stroller attachment to keep your kids walking right along with you. As much as we think a purple monkey handle is pretty cool, we love this super simple rubbery-plastic version and have an idea for a DIY version as well.

The Tag Along stroller handle is suggested for children ages 3 and up, although that's more of a safety net for them as their site tells us they've heard of many parents using these with children who are in their terrible twos. It retails for $9.99 and we like that it's a voluntary thing. Kids are naturally drawn to holding into something and this brightly colored handle is a great way to encourage them to stay close.

Although we think this brightly colored handle is super cool, we have to fess up to the first thought we had after spying it. We didn't think it was a new product, we simply thought it was an 80's fashion belt that had been looped around one of the stroller supports. So if $10 bucks plus a few in shipping isn't your idea of a good time, try checking out your local thrift store for a discarded belt from years gone by.

my phil and ted stroller has a little fabric handle to hold onto incase the stroller gets away from you (!) which my four year old holds onto when we go for a stroll with his younger brother and are crossing roads. In all honesty, any old belt, scarf or strip of fabric would work just as well.

I use a simple plastic link (like one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Ring-Links-Rattle-Developmental/dp/B002L3T9YM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1258448652&sr=1-2 ) I leave it hooked onto the stroller handle at all times.

It's great for walking through parking lots, crossing streets, or anytime I want my daughter right next to me. I typically don't have the option of simply holding her hand, since I'm pushing a double stroller with one hand and holding a baby with the other (4 kids 4 and under...) I just say "Hold the red ring" and she knows what to do.

I've also found it to be useful as a quick place to hang things like grocery bags (just keep in mind that anything too heavy could be a safety hazard!)

I think a carabiner could serve the same purpose as well. (http://www.amazon.com/b/qid=1258449117/ref=sr_tc_2_1?ie=UTF8&node=3402541)
