Blogging ABC News: Warning about Boppy

2008-02-08-boppysmall.jpgWe were surprised to see a warning about the popular Boppy on our local news last night. Apparently, several babies in Westchester, NY died from SIDS, and in each case there was some connection to the pillow.

Like the Bumbo recall though, it seems like it's mostly an issue of common sense.

The child should not be allowed to sleep on the Boppy, or have the Boppy in their crib while they're sleeping. Boppy even has a warning on their label and their website about not using it as a sleeping aid.

There was someone who posted here not long ago about how a friend was using a boppy to make their baby's moses basket cozier (!)...

Hope that the message gets through to them.

...sorry, the friend was using the boppy and a bumper to make a small enclosed space for their baby, similar to a moses basket... still dangerous...

Yeah, but I hate the way the title of this makes it seem like the Boppy is dangerous and not that the parents are doing something wrong. I mean, if parents leave the baby asleep in a carseat on top of a table (I see this ALL the time) and the carseat falls off, do we issue a carseat warning??

My son loves his bumbo when I put it on top of my floorstanding speakers and then play some really loud bass through the speakers. The vibrations seem to move nicely through the bumbo. I'm glad this recall doesn't apply to this practice.
