Words to live by. The back page of Better Homes and Gardens this month has this quote from Anna Stahl, who took a plain white room and transformed it, above. "Afraid of color? That's like being afraid of feeling happy!"

We are really enjoying the new back page feature, called "I Did It!", which features a quick story about someone's renovation. In this case, Anna painted daughter Lola's bedroom bright pink, then created her own flowers, cutting them out of self-adhesive vinyl and smoothing them on the walls using a credit card.

Orange and pink and a sock monkey. Looks like a successful DIY project to us! Anyone got a recent DIY of their own to share?

My son demands polka dots for his new room, so I was planning on making them myself. Was thinking contact paper, but self-adhesive vinyl sounds better. Anyone know if I can just find it at the hardware store?

i'm going to put in a plug for contact paper myself - i redid the shelves in my daughter's room by covering their beaten up mdf ugliness in contact paper. a year later, they still look as good as the day i did the recovering.
