How do you store your stuff? If you are looking for a little inspiration, BHG has you covered!
The Early Spring 2007 edition of this special issue of Better Homes and Gardens has some great ideas for your whole apartment, but something in the Q & A section with Judith Wilson really resonated with us, regarding children, organization, and storage. When asked how a well organized home can affect overall mood and performance in every day life, she noted...
..."If you have children, your organizational skills will rub off on them, and hopefully, they will learn good habits from the start."
It is a powerful idea, when you think about it, that organizing your nursery isn't just a way to keep your home clean, but that it is also behaviour to be modeling for our children.
To that end, what could be more help in teaching children to be organized than this great DIY dresser project. A simple unfinished wood dresser with the days of the week painted on the drawers helps children learn to lay out their clothes for the week, plan ahead, and at the same time lets parents know in advance whether their kids have everything they need, laundry-wise, for the upcoming week, making mornings (hopefully!) a little less hectic.
This issue is full of DIY projects. The bench, left, started out life as an upper kitchen cabinet. With feet added to raise it off the ground, and cushions on top, it becomes storage. The wall storage are just hooks screwed in to 2x4s, which are then bolted to the wall by industrial U-shape bar brackets.
If you are craving a little more organization in your life, and aren't sure exactly where to start, pick this magazine up - it is sure to inspire you.
Interesting. I may have to buy this issue. My mom is very disorganized by nature, and that influence is something I've had to fight to overcome my whole life, so I've always thought there's definitely something to the idea.
Love the map wallpaper!
I could not for the LIFE of me find that exact dresser. I even emailed the "designer" who told me that she was wrongly credited! (Grr). I found a pretty dresser on Craigslist though, called a "Lingerie Dresser" (only with 5 drawers, unfortunetly). But I bought some paint and some letter stickers to match and will try and semi-duplicate. Wish I could find that exact dresser though.
