Wanna see how the girls at Blueprint throw a shower? July's issue has a great article on throwing a modern baby shower. Two expecting mothers over at Blueprint got one classy shower. Out with the pink and blue pastels and girls only rules. Forget about the tea sandwiches and cupcakes. Today's baby showers are colorful and co-ed.
See how they made the decorations, what they served, and the special gifts they gave the moms to be below...
Home editor Page Marchese Norman and senior home editor Rebecca Robertson chose orange and teal as their colors. They whipped up these striking mobiles with a little colored paper and embroidery hoops. Each of the moms to be got to take home one of the mobiles. Great idea. Find out how to make them here.
They compiled a great CD for baby's first music. You can get their playlist here . They also made scrapbooks full of family photos to familiarize baby with their grandparents and even their pets. Favors were twine tied boxes of candied nuts.
The menu was an Asian theme including nori-wrapped rice crackers, spicy wasabi peas, edamame sprinkled with sesame salt. Candy-coated sesame seeds and dried sweet potatoes, and a bowl of clementines, kumquats, and tangerines worked well with their color scheme. We especially like their dessert idea-Japanese mochi (these are delicious if you haven't tried them!), and Dry Meyer lemon sodas.
Kendra and Rachel also received these felt boxes full of other Blueprint moms' favorite picks. Find a list of their favorite picks here .
We are throwing a few showers in the upcoming months. There's a lot of inspiration here.
I think it is a refreshing design move for baby shower parties.

Martha Stewart had a baby lullabye cd out there at one time (as well as a Playtime cd); the playlist was great.
Here it is: Martha Stewart Living Baby Sleepytime

If you don't manage to snag a copy, I highly recommend downloading the playlist; we love this cd in our house (and read the reviews -- seems we aren't the only ones!)
Here's the Playtime one:
