Blogging Fit Pregnancy: 10 Best Cities in America to Have a Baby

2008-01-23-fitp.jpg

We just checked out the February/March edition of Fit Pregnancy. For the third year in a row, Fit Pregnancy looked at American cities to determine the best place to have a baby. The magazine examined 50 criteria including fertility services, maternal and infant health risk, access to hospitals and doctors, safety, affordability, stroller friendliness and birthing options.

So what city topped the list? See below the jump for their top 10 and see if you're city made it to the list.

Portland is number 1. Fit chose Portland as the Best City in America to Have a Baby for reasons such as the city's low maternal mortality rate, above average number of OB-GYNs, and small number of low-weight births.

Here are the rest of the winners:

2. Minneapolis
3. San Francisco
4. Seattle
5. Denver
6. Boston
7. Omaha
8. Virginia Beach
9. Austin
10. Albuquerque

Curious about last year's winners? Check out our previous post here.

Do you live in a top 10 city? Do you agree with Fit Pregnancy's assessment? Want to nominate your city for top billing?

I live in Portland and have to say it's a great city. You see so many women babywearing. Plus my husband and I went to a Baby Expo here sponsored by Gentle Birth and there were a million midwives there to talk to. Also, there are a lot of midwives who deliver in hospitals as well (which is the way I'm going.) Great stores for babies and moms, new and used. I feel very lucky to be here at this time in my life, now if only we could afford a house here! lol

I'm curious where New York is on that list. Do they rate the rest of the country?
