Kris Wetherbee, of Hallmark Magazine, offers suggestions for four types of indoor gardens: Exotic Escape, which has fig and coffee trees; Desert Garden with aloe, crassula and a sandy base; Blooming Bright which features one blooming plant; and Into the Woods with moss, fern and ivy.

What’s great about these indoor gardens is that most of them need little maintenance.

Hallmark recommends you gather up some bell jars and dishes, purchase your plants, and let the gardens go nuts.

Make it a family affair by having children pick the plants and flowers, dig and scoop out dirt and of course, water them.
