Blogging The Chicago Reader: The Nest Issue

nestreaderphoto1.jpg
The Chicago Reader recently presented its annual Nest Issue and this year's theme is "Works in Progress." Featuring five homes, each quite different and unique from the other, the issue shows the inhabitants' diverse taste and styles. Two of the homes shown included photos of the family's children's living areas -- including bedroom and family room. The homes are as different as night and day: one a living work of art, the other a modern classic....

Artist Brian Bonebrake's home incorporates his work and his family life in their duplex apartment and he remarks in the article, "It’s a giant piece of installation art that’s always in progress." It must be so exciting for Bonebrake's daughters to grow up in such a colorful environment.

The other family home featured was Eve Fineman and Alex Dunham's, a rehabbed 1920s bungalow. Fineman, an interior architect, and Dunham, a contractor, worked on their home together.

Some of their work included creating a Baltic birch plywood bed for their son Eero -- complete with a matching bed just for his Ugly Doll. His room exudes calmness and comfort.

It's fascinating to see how two families in the same city interpret the Perfect Home. To see more images and to read the complete article, visit the Chicago Reader Web site.

Both are wonderful rooms. I especially love the messy bookshelves in the first home and the ugly doll bed in the second.
