Blogging the Martha Stewart Show:Baby Day

2007-09-28-baby day.jpgIt was Baby Day yesterday on the Martha Stewart Show. Kim Raver, expecting mother and actress joined Martha in the kitchen. The editorial director over at Kids Martha Stewart also revealed her mommy must-haves.

Martha shared some fun photo ideas- our favorite- take a picture of your baby starting at two days old every month for a year in the same one-year-old sized onesie. Place them in a grid or picture frame and see the transformation at their first birthday. We think that strip of photos would also make a unique birthday party invitation, decoration, or favor accessory.

These were Jodi Levine's Mommy must-haves:
Original Bundleme ($39.95) and Lite Bundleme ($ 24.95)
JJ Cole, jjcoleusa.com

Infant CPR Anytime Personal Learning Program from the American Heart Association ($34.95)
cpranytime.org

BabySteps Natural Feeding System ($60)
Includes food mill, electric food mill, freezer trays, feeding dish, and user manual. Kidco,
kidco.com

Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair ($199.90)
Stokke, stokkeusa.com/tripptrapp

InSTEP Safari Stroller ($149.99)
InSTEP, instep.net

SunSafe Baby Swimsuit ($42) and Baby Bucket Hat ($25)

wow! martha and i think alike. i took photos of my daughter the 12th day of every month during her first year in her nursery rocking chair and then sent out the collage (thanks, shutterfly!) as birthday invitations. the party guests (family) then had to number the pictures 1-12, from youngest to oldest. good times!
I also took another photo on my daughter's 2nd b'day and plan to do the same each year until she screams and yells. I have a good ten years, right?

...well, I *tried* doing the same-day-every-month pictures with my daughter, and somehow, it petered out in the 4th month. And with my son, well, it was even worse. We spent our time getting ready to move to Europe, and so his baby pictures got short shrift. And now that his first birthday is coming up, I feel soooo guilty, and wish I had more pictures of when he was tiny.

I didn't do it on the exact same day, but took at least one picture sometime during each month. I picked out 12 and got 5x7 prints made and hung them up as part of the decorations for my daughter's first birthday.

I'm doing something similar with my boys each month. They were born on the 20th and 30th, so on those days I just make sure to take a picture of them. So far at nearly 2 and 4 I've only missed a handfull of pictures (and taken them on the 21st or 1st or whatever). Of course, February becomes an issue for the boy born on the 30th.

This year for Christmas I'm sending out collages of the 25 pictures for DS2 and 49 pictures for DS1 as those are square numbers which can be put into the "collage" machine on the Kodak site (and they happen to be 2yrs and 4yrs old).

Those cakes are so cute! I will definitely have to remember this when the Inevitable Baby Showers begin.

Our relatives did something with the 12 photos they took - they made a fun game for everyone to play. They posted the 12 photos in a random order and labled each with a letter. Then everyone playing had to put them in order chronologically. It was really fun and harder than you might think!
