Blogging Top Design: Episode 2

2007-02-08-top3.jpg

No one loves it but everyone is still watching Top Design. Us included. Honestly, we tuned in because the children's room theme got our attention.

Pictured here are our top three picks; Erik's pirate-themed room is not included. (more pics after the jump)

Goil's "active" room is at the top, followed by Carisa's jungle room and Elizabeth's soccer themed space.

Let us know - what did you think of the children's rooms that the designers created? Which was your pick for "Top Design"?

My pick was Carisa's jungle room, "hard edges" and all.

ps. congrats nursery editors! we're glad you're here.

Goil’s was excellent (well, except for all the white). His client and friends would have hours of good fun smashing into one another on the roller furniture, but it was also cool enough that it would transition all the way to college.

I also really liked Matt’s room for “Hollywood.” I think he nailed his client. It was original and glam -- and who cares that he used black. (I wasn’t crazy for the wall color, which read like silly putty, but that could have been a TV thing.) Again, a room that has staying power.

Carisa’s jungle was unique, but I think her swinging ropes were a bit derivitive of last week’s swing idea. Also, honey, lay off the pillows and cushions.

Elizabeth had such a strong showing last week. but her soccer room was a total bummer to me. It's just a primary-colored jail cell. (She even had extra money to play with!)

But Erik’s theme room? Come on. Yes, a 10 year old will love it, but for how long? Maybe 2 years — tops. How wasteful. (Maybe if he was 5 and could have gotten a few years out of it.) Besides theme rooms are easy-peasy AND cheesy.

Iliked the soccer room, thought the goal for in-room practice was pretty cool. I'm probably biased, because for my son's 9th birthday I transformed his room into a wrestling ring while he was at school (big WWE fan, scary I know). I bought a king-size mattress, covered it with a black fitted sheet, and stuck it in the corner. On those two walls I painted wrestling-ring ropes and added life-sized wrestling figure decals. It was worth it to see the look on his face when he got home. I was the best Mom ever that day.

I loved Goil's room - the pattern on the walls was subtle, and the wheels on everything were spot on. Of course, I am just waiting for one of them to bust out a dirt floor in one of these rooms!

Goil's room was sophisticated, modern + totally appealing... even to a kid. Totally something I would want in my house.

I think Goil is going to go far in this competition. The rest of them, I'm not that impressed with. {michael... the one who "doesn't paint" + buys granny pillow – he should be next to exit.}

Oh, What's up with these judges? Last week they gave the boot to the two designers who's room was deemed "too theme"y" and this week they award the "top design" to the pirate's room?? :(
Talk about an overdone theme room!

Is Todd Oldman suppose to be a mentor? Does he + Jonathan Adler creep anyone else out? They might be talented, but I don't think this gig is doing them any favors.

But, yea, I'm still watching too :)
