One question that is always constant in many parents' mind is, "How do I give my children the play space they need, without giving up my entire home?" Katharine Whittemore writes about one family's take and solution over at Wondertime magazine.
When Anne and John Murdock decided to convert their dining room into a playroom for their children, Max and Ruby, they put a lot of thought into what their end result would be and how they would go about doing it.
Anne and John gave six tips for making a room that works for you and your children. Here are a few of them:
• Start with a big and bold craft table. - Anne bought a plain door from The Home Depot, and had some Plexiglas cut that would fit the top of the table which then rests on two sets of drawers.
• The rug in the room must be wipeable. Anne recommends, InterfaceFLOR carpet squares which can be wiped up and cleaned immediately.
• Keep supplies for the craft table in paint cans, instead of coffee cans. They are sturdier and can hold more supplies.

What about you? Have you converted one of your rooms into a play/art room? What was one tip you would definitely recommend to everyone?
I had the Flor tiles in my sons' playspace and had to take them out because they were such a nightmare to keep clean. Maybe there are tiles that are better than the ones I chose, but mine were dirt magnets. Even worse, I contacted Flor multiples times with my concerns and was ignored. I've now gone with one of those indoor/outdoor hose down type rugs & am much, much happier (and you really can wipe ANYTHING off of them with a baby wipe -- it's fabulous!).

which kind/style of Flor tiles did you use? I'm looking into them myself, so I'd be interested in your comments.

I have flor (housepet) in my playroom (for 1 1/2 years) and they aren't the least bit dirty. They are heathered, which probably wears better than a solid. I absolutely LOVE flor.

Alisa K -- I purchased Wide Wale in Tan. I have friends who have also had good experiences with other tiles, but I'd stay away from the Wide Wale product. The "Housepet" referenced by twostraightlines (love your blog by the way!) is advertised by Flor as not showing dirt and being durable, so perhaps that would be a better pick?
