Wondertime magazine offers a fun and interesting look at the evolution of potty training and what a varied history it has been!
The Care and Feeding of Children, published in 1904, advised parents that, "A small chamber, about the size of a pint bowl, is placed between the nurse's knees, and upon this the infant is held. This should be done twice a day, after the morning and afternoon feedings.... After a few weeks the bowels will move as soon as the infant is placed on the chamber."
1946 brought us Dr. Spock's The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care which suggested leaving potty training almost entirely up to your child while Dr. Sears recently taught us that potty training is a partnership. It's fascinating to see how the views on potty training have changed over the years.

I have learned that potty training is more about training me than training her. When I get lazy and put her in a pull up or a diaper, it sets her back. I have to make sure and ask her or she'll forget and have an accident.
