"Mrs. Rachel Lynde lived just here the Avonlea main road dipped down into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies' eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods of the old Cuthbert place..." And so begins L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables.
Puffin Classics is relaunching the classic tale of Anne Shirley, the red-haired heroine, who is adopted by the Cuthbert Clan.
If the cover looks familiar, that is because it was illustrated by Lauren Child, who is the author and illustrator of the Charlie and Lola books. Child also wrote the introduction for the relaunch.
A classic addition to any tween's library, we can't wait to get our copy, too.
i have been a fan of anne since i was a little girl, but i have to say, i'm not crazy about the new cover. thankfully, i still have my old box set from when i was in 5th grade (i'm 23 now!) that i can pass on.

Lauren Child did an absolutely wonderful retelling of The Princess and the Pea; an illustrated version all in collage. Gorgeous! And perfect when they outgrow Charlie & Lola...

My son loves the Charlie and Lola books. Based upon his love of Lauren Child's illustrations and our love of Pippi, we recently purchased a copy of the Child-illustrated edition of Pippi Longstocking. I guess we'll have to add Anne to our growing collection of headstrong redheaded heroines. Perhaps Lola is due for a kool-aid dye-job ("I must really, absolutely have lovely red hair right this minute, Charlie.")

I think she illustrated the new pippi longstocking cover too... because pippie looks exactly like anne.

I think the style works better for pippi (i like the style, but... not really for anne of green gables)

...don't forget Clarice Bean (for the 6-10 crowd)!
