Baby Must-Haves

2007-04-20-babymust.jpg Ok, we've definitely been over this before. Everyone has their own opinion on what one baby really needs. But this August the editors of Parenting Magazine, along with hundreds of real moms, will give us their advice and top picks in a book we think might come in handy: Baby Must-Haves: The Essential Guide to Everything from Bibs to Cribs .

Though we haven't seen the interior of the book yet, it looks promising. We hear it actually goes into specifics like which high chair is easiest to clean, or which bouncy seat will keep baby happy all day.

If you're looking for something that you can get your hands on now, the editors of Parents Magazine offer Parents Baby Gear (Parent's Picks) though it's already a few years old). Anyone have any great resources on this question? Please share if you do.

Yes, the question of what you need gets tossed around again and again, but if you're pregnant for the first time, it is something you think about. We look forward to checking out this latest from Parenting Magazine. Seems like this would make a great gift for a new mom-to-be, and you can pre-order at Amazon. Of course, you can always take a peek at B&N and spend the money on a decaf soy mocha latte at the cafe there instead.

Perhaps it will prove to be useful, but Parenting magazine is usually part of the problem here, not a helpful solution. They seem to think of every new gadget and oversized, overly busy plastic toy as a "must-have" for baby.

Parenting.com posts the same Mom-Tested content as the magazine. Here’s one about baby gear that is easy to stash when you’re not using it:

There's a whole BOOK on what are must-haves?!!?! That seems kind of ridiculous, as my list is about 20 items. Gee, they wouldn't be doing this to make advertisers happy, would they?
