A large part of your home is the state and town you choose to live in. This year BusinessWeek's rounded up the best town to raise kids in each state. The Chicago suburb of Tinley Park ranked top in the nation. The other "best places" below...

The list was compiled by first limiting towns to a certain population and median income- then looking at affordability, schools, and safety.

Ever heard of Dothan, Alabama? How about Tonawanda, New York?

You may not agree 100% with their list, but one thing to take away is that there are lots of great, family-friendly cities out there you haven't even heard of.

And don't forget to consider Anchorage, Alaska or Honolulu, Hawaii, the top picks in those two states.
