Decorating Tool

Which chair would you select? This decorating tool is making its way around the blogosphere. If you have a few minutes- give it a shot. By answering a series of questions, and making your selections- you can find out your personal "decorating style." Ours was "modern family".

Yes, it does recommend a bunch of products to buy once you get your style, but it's still fun. Would be fun to print out some of your selections and put them in your style tray.

Visit the tool here. Then, share your personal style result in the comments. Did it match your current home decor?

I got "family mix," which is fairly true, but I was stumped by a few of the questions, because in some of them none applied to me. Such as, the dining one--my dishes are vintage Fiesta, and I collect colorful vintage kitchenalia, but it told me that my dining room is a blank slate, which is most assuredly is not. But, in the end, they were right, I like to mix high and low-end modern and modern antiques. I keep my collection of early twentieth century British Arts & Crafts pottery--some bought at auction at Christies--in a Heywood Wakefield buffet that was a steal I found on Craigslist.

Ugh, it told me my style was "earth mover" the close cousin to rustic. I am soooo not rustic. I chose the images with the most eclectic and vintage-y pieces in them and they were far from "earthy." Ah-well. I know what I like so no quiz is going to sway me from that...

I'm a Home Queen! And although I picked "baby on the way" because I'm being terribly optimistic right now, it's still an accurate description!

"Bringing up baby hasn't in the least bit cramped your sense of style. You have an almost theatrical approach to interior design, dressing up rooms just as you yourself would for a glamorous night out (or in). The look is opulent and luxurious, but can be equally sexy and sophisticated - just like you!"

Interesting. It told me that I was "Funky Modern" - which I am so not (It specifically mentioned Eames and I cannot stand that stuff). However, after I explored the descriptions... I discovered that those were pretty spot on. I like clean lines, texture, and subdued colors with pops of color. I always thought that was more classic contemporary.

It was a fun "test" though - I'm going to have my BF do it when he comes home. We have very different tastes - maybe this will help us figure out similarities.

I'm a pot-luck pro, which I guess accurately reflects my haphazard collection of mismatched "but I liked it!" pieces. Heh. And since we brought home our baby 6 weeks ago, I've been decorating in spit-up and laundry (mostly clean even!), so I guess... pot-luck it is!

"Family modern" so yeah, that is right, but that's also vague.

I got Yummy Mummy. The descriptions of what I like for each room were good, especially the dining room and bedroom ones.

I got "Family Mix", which is bang on for us. We've termed our style "Eclectic Vintage Chic", so it just seems to flow from that. It did however tell me that my dining room was an example of minimalism, when I would be hard-pressed to find anyone who's ever been over to use word minimal to describe anything about our house...
