With all of the technology and information sharing available to us, more and more projects can be DIY instead of store bought. Now it's true that DIY doesn't necessarily mean dollar savings, but it does mean shared time and a personalized result. We have long loved the idea of creating a baby first words book and the beautiful simplicity of this one has prompted us to get a move on it.

I made one for my niece's first birthday using photos of her from her first year. (g is for grandma = picture of emily with her grandma; a is for aunt = picture of her and me.) I did the layouts in photoshop and had it printed by shutterfly.

What a fantastic idea! I haven't made a baby book (yet!), but I've used MyPublisher.com for custom photo books in the past, and the quality of their books is awesome. They also send coupons via email with great deals (sometimes buy one, get one free) for multiples of the same book.

I've made quite a few books for my twins using photographs: An Alphabet book (this was my first attempt and was made from photographs, craft paper, and contact paper and held together with rings), Our Family, We Love Our Daddy (photos and text about them and their dad), and Summer Vacation.
I used shutterfly for all except the alphabet book and they look great and have held up well after many, many readings. I am in the middle of putting together another alphabet book since the original is now falling apart. The new book will include recent photos since the 1st one is from when they were newborns.

we have had great results from both shutterfly and iphoto, as long as the cover is fabric (if it's the bigger, hard bound book). what a fun idea. maybe i'll invite my daughter to help me make one for her.
