D.I.Y. Kids -- Activity Book

041409diykids.jpgSubscribing to a DIY life when decorating and living with kids makes sense; encouraging kids to be a part of your family's DIY movement makes even more sense. This activity book by Ellen and Julia Lupton is divided into four sections (graphics, toys, home, fashion), and encourages kids "to use basic design principles and on-hand materials to express their individuality through more than eighty imaginative projects."

D.I.Y. Kids is designed to trigger imaginative play, without requiring fees, teams, or a minivan. It's for parents, teachers, aunts and uncles, friends and babysitters, neighbors and citizens—anyone who wants to create a better world not only for, but also with, the next generation. Most of all, it is for kids who want to make their mark by exercising the arts of design with wit, intelligence, and style.

Anyone out there already have this book or something similar? D.I.Y. Kids is available at Olie Bollen for $14.95.
*NOTE: For ages 6 or 7 years and up, but the activities can be modified to suit a younger range.

My 8 year old will love this! Whenever she doesn't have the toy or tool she wants at the moment, she figures out how to make it (usually involving fabric, cloth ribbon, sticks, paper, scotch tape and duct tape). She has already inquired about opening her own Etsy shop.

If only her mother were that crafty.

I gave this book to my nieces (ages 6 and 3) for Christmas. I have no idea whether they like it or not (they live far away), but I LOVE it. Thanks for the reminder to get a copy for my own daughters.
