Do You Have a Morning Routine?

2008-05-20-morning routine.jpg
Mornings can be tricky. But we find we always do better with a little routine. Simple Mom recommends having at least five things you do the same every morning to start the day off feeling right. We usually make the bed, open the curtains, put away clean dishes, make breakfast, read the NY Times headlines online...OK, we're already past five. Share your routine with us!

Is there something you do that gets you ready to face the day ahead? Do you get a moment with your coffee and yourself?

Not including brushing/flossing teeth (which is the first thing I do), it is: workout, come home and pour first cup of coffee, jump on-line for headlines and quick browse/delete of email, shower and grab daughter for nursing if she hasn't woken up yet.

are you kidding me? I wake up 30 minutes before I have to leave the house. So, my routine is pretty much as follows: wake up, brush teeth, shower, get ready, kiss baby, run out the door.

we have to wait for baby to wake us, so i always start the day with a bottle/snuggle/snooze in bed first. we'll have to wean her soon and i will miss this time a LOT. the rest of the morning is my major play time with her - and getting dressed.

I feel like the Tazmanian devil for the beginning of the day. I get a bottle and have Charlie eat. Then I get the dog, take him out, give him breakfast, all the while the coffee is being made. Then I open all the blinds, get the toys all out and ready to play. Then I run back upstairs, make the bed. At the point the coffee is ready, the dog is back to sleep on the couch and Charlie and I can play. If I saw it all on video I think I would be shocked on how much I get done in 20 minutes, it is a like a whirlwind!

1. wake up
2. simulate morning by turning on every light in the house (I live in beautiful grey seattle)
3. make tea/eat cereal
4. dawdle/drink tea/stare into space
5. pack lunch
6. wash up, put on makeup
7. get dressed
8. pack bag (laptop, cell phone, ipod, lunch, powercords, wallet), turn off all the lights in the house
9. get out the door on time
