There are so many recommended classics and new books for bedtime reading, but we usually start off our day with some reading as well. We've been searching for some good books that talk about starting the day and all of the opportunities it holds.

For the really little crowd, we like this book, Baby's First Book from the 1950's. It has a real simplicity about the words and pictures and begins with a child waking up, getting dressed, brushing his/her teeth, etc.
We also like The Perfect Day which begins with a boy and his father talking at breakfast about what they might do that day.
Ohdeedoh readers- any other good recommendations?
-'oh what a busy day!' by gyo fujikawa. one of my all time favorites, just bought an old edition from amazon so my new son could have the same one i enjoyed.
also, almost all books from Richard Scarry. 'Busy Busy Town', etc.
i love his illustrations and he has lots o books about all the stuff people do during the day.

I'm so glad to see other folks out there who enjoy sharing vintage books with their children. Did you know that all children's books printed before 1985 are now illegal for Americans to buy or sell under a new law, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, that went into effect in February? These books are perfectly safe, although a small number may have a little lead in the ink. Your child can only be exposed to the lead if he eats the book (not chews on, eats).
You can learn more about this law and join the fight to save these wonderful old books and other safe, threatened children's products at overlawyered.com, bookroomblog.com, heartkeepercommonroom.blogspot.com, amendthecpsia.com and my blog, doodlesandnoodles.blogspot.com.
