How To: Make Superhero Costumes from Household Items

091609superhero1.jpg

We were always jealous of the kids with store bought costumes for some reason when we were little. Our mom always made ours from clothes and other things around the house. Well- now that we have our own child and see Halloween costumes for 1 year olds for $40- things around the house is sounding pretty good.

091609superhero2.jpgYou really don't even need to get as fancy as sewing- just think fabric, scarves, and this mask- it's a paper plate. Get creative and look around to see what you already have!

Anyone who has any other great homemade costume ideas- please share!

I don't think the first mask could possibly be a paper plate. It's a store-bought mask.

I agree - those masks are not paper plates and at least the first cape is sewn. Capes are not hard to sew - I made one a couple weeks ago http://julie329.vox.com/library/post/super-hero-cape.html - and they are also readily available on Etsy.

The post is also true as my husband commented to my son, "my mom made me a cape with a towel and a pin."
