given the current state of the economy, we've given our holidays a much-needed makeover. instead of lots of gifts for friends, we agreed to go all go out to a nice dinner and have a white elephant gift exchange.

for parents on both sides, we decided to donate to charities in lieu of gifts. both sets of parents happily agreed - my parents told me they were relieved because they don't need more "stuff"

i'm happy because i feel like holidays are under control and we've moved closer to capturing the spirit of the holidays - friends, family, and giving. when the economy finally recovers i doubt we will go back to the old way of doing things.
