Kids and Cooking All Things Trader Joe's

cookingwithTJtoppic.jpgOur household is definitely a TJ's household. For our son, a visit to Trader Joe's is like a visit to a toy store -- he has so much fun and loves the selection of fruits and cheeses and helping us with grocery shopping is a sure-fire way to get him to help with dinner.

When we heard about "Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's", we knew that this would become a family staple. Created by Deana Gunn and Wona Miniati, "Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's" features several family-friendly recipes that are easy enough for your children to help and get involved with getting lunch or dinner on the table. Family favorites like yogurt, pasta and shrimp get the royal treatment as they are transformed into so much more.

"Cooking with All Things Trader Joe's" features easy-to-follow recipes with photos and many are recipes that your child can put together themselves including the Yogurt Parfait (which features TJ's Organic Mixed Fruit Spread, Granola and yogurt) and peanutty noodles. This great book is sure to become your child's favorite cookbook. My son loves the recipe for the Greek Party Spread which features a ton of veggies, pita bread and dips -- what child doesn't love veggies with dips?

I moved away from many Trader Joe's to a city with NO Trader Joe's. It has been over a year and I am still suffering from withdrawals. I am sure I was thinner AND happier when my fridge was full of Trader Joe's!

I've seen this cookbook before, and knowing how TJ's works, I always have to wonder how long it'll be before every item used in the book is discontinued. :)

I cant believe living away from a TJs. I actually MAIL stuff to my SIL in Louisville, KY. Great to see this book. We cannot run out of ideas on a busy weeknight.

Our local grocery chain has store-brand organics that are as cheap, if not cheaper, than Trader Joes. Big, international, corporate conglomerate has alot of people fooled.

Like my local Safeway or Lucky isn't a corporation?

I buy from farmer's markets, but when I shop at Safeway or Trader Joe's, the bill at Trader Joe's is almost always $30 to $40 LESS than Safeway's.

Safeway is expensive no doubt about it.

I LOVED TJs when I lived in Oregon and begged them to come to Atlanta when I moved back. They did and now I hardly ever go. Great stuff, but I can get it cheaper and better at the Dekalb Farmers Market. I also don't usually cook with pre-prepared stuff.

I think it's cool that some fans of Trader Joe's put together that book. It's not by Trader Joe's though and sadly, a lot of the ingredients have been discontinued. There's still quite a few good ideas in there though.
