Mollie Katzen Cookbooks for Kids

molliekatzenbooks-TOP.jpgThe Moosewood Cookbook, the classic vegetarian cookbook, has been a staple in many household kitchens for decades and we love that our children can also delight in Mollie Katzen's recipes. Here are three cookbooks any young gourmet can enjoy and cherish.

Pretend Soup and Other Real Recipes: A Cookbook for Preschoolers & Up, co-authored with Ann Henderson, is a perfect introduction to the kitchen for any preschooler. Filled with recipes such as "Green Spaghetti" and "Pretend Soup" – as well as many others – "Pretend Soup" introduces cooking to children in an approachable, entertaining way. Each recipe is shown on double-page spreads, one for the child and one for the adult.

With a great variety of recipes for older children, each one 100% vegetarian, Honest Pretzels: And 64 Other Amazing Recipes for Cooks Ages 8 & Up picks up where Pretend Soup left off. Children learn how to make and handle dough, seasoning with herbs, pureeing, simple sauces as well as basic kitchen skills and safety. One of the recipes includes Not-from-a-Box Macaroni and Cheese .

My 3-yr-old son adores Salad People. He asks us to read it to him like its a storybook and he has memorized many of the passages.
