Sow and Grow: A Gardening Book for Children by Tina Davis

Spring is the best time to introduce kids to gardening as fresh growth and blooms are everywhere. Sow and Grow: A Gardening Book for Children offers gardening activities and experiments for every month of the year.

What we particularly like about this book is that its focus is on indoor gardening - perfect for apartment dwellers or others without access to a yard or garden. Author Tina Davis mixes science lessons with vintage illustrations, puzzles and fun activities. In February she explains how to grow a carrot, avocado or even a pineapple right in your kitchen. Creating a terrarium is the topic for July.

The book's reading level is ages 9-12, but younger kids will be able to enjoy the activities with your help. A nice detail is the book is bound to lie flat so you can easily keep it open for reference while your hands are full of dirt.

Find Sow and Grow here or in your local bookstore.
