Where You Came From by Sara O'Leary

Call us selfish, but we have a shelf of our favorite children's books that are hands off. We look forward to reading them with our son, but we'd like to safeguard them from chewing, tearing and sticky fingers. Where You Came From by Sara O'Leary (along with her first book, When You Were Small) will find a home on this shelf of treasures.

Like When You Were Small, Where You Came From O'Leary (who writes this cool blog) has teamed up with artist Julie Morstad and together they've created another sweet, charming tale starring an inquisitive young boy, Henry, and his parents who try to outdo themselves with humorous explanations for Henry's origins.

Morstad's prints are much sought after so having an entire book of her work is a joy and they're a perfect compliment to O'Leary's delightful narrative.

Julie Morstad is one of my favorite illustrators, and a friend of a friend. I bought a copy of "When You Were Small" for five friends and they all loved it. Truly sweet story.

I am thrilled there is another collaboration, and am off to order it!

I have a few hands-off books, too: Where The Wild Things Are, and The Little Mole Who Knew It Was None Of His Business. There would be more except that hardback children's books are astoundingly expensive.

Where You Came From sounds like just the kind of story my 4-year old would love. Will have to hunt around for it on our next trip to the bookstore. Thanks!

I do the same for the more 'fragile' books, including some nice vintage childrens books we have. I store these books on the top shelf (out of reach) and read these to my 3 year old in the evening.

All his other books are on the bottom shelves of our book case, so he can read those any time. It works well, and keeps those top shelf ones more special (so he's more careful with them).
