Minimalist, green, industrial and, dare we say, avant garde. The cardboard cot by Album di Famiglia stopped us cold with its simplicity.
Admittedly not for everyone, but it's hard to deny its functionality. The cot is big enough for babies up to nine months old, and can sleep two newborns (as pictured).
You can keep the industrial chic look and leave the brown cardboard as is, write your child's name to personalize, or go all out and paint the whole thing.
The cot comes with a firm foam mattress which complies with safety and comfort standards (note this is a French website so they aren't necessarily referring to U.S. safety standards). It sits on large wheels, making it easily movable from room to room.
The cot is delivered flat-packed and is easy to assemble. It's €220 and available here. They deliver to the States.
What do you think of the design? Compare this cardboard cot to the Lullaby Cradle we blogged about previously.
you know, this is kind of cool!!

That's almost $300 - before shipping. The idea is great, but you could get a baby mattress from Ikea and use your own box for far less!

I guess I don't get it. If you're gonna put your baby in a cardboard box (and I see nothing wrong with that, btw), why not just put your baby in a cardboard box? Or a dresser drawer. Or a milk crate. Or a blanket on the floor, which is inexpensive, attractive, easily washable, incredibly space-efficient, and involves no rolling/tipping hazards.
Actually I do see something wrong with using a cardboard box in NYC or other cockroach-prone areas -- roaches *heart* cardboard glue. In my roach-infested NYC apartment, I saw a huge difference when I got rid of every cardboard box in the place. So if this $300 thing is held together with glue, I'd say run away.

Great idea and I love the simplicity of it but seriously it's too expensive. Shame!

Well, of course $300 for a cardboard box and $50 for a plastic soap dish!
And people thought I was crazy when I bought the stokke highchair for $200.

You're not supposed to be able to easily slip your hand between the mattress and the side of the crib, for starters. And what's more, $300 for a cardboard box???!!! If a fool and his money are easily parted, then a lot of stupid people will be owning this piece.
If they really wanted to contribute something to the world, they should have made this a piece that a family could easily afford when cribs are already so expensive.

sarahwg-
Much better find! Cute, sweet even. And it looks easier to take apart and put back together, which I assume is the point of these cardboard cribs.
