Another moderately priced crib enters the market. A friend tipped us off the other day to Walmart's newest offspring in the Baby Mod line-up -- the Olivia collection. We know that Walmart has been playing in the modern baby space for a while now.

And we like the look of this crib. The Olivia is made from solid New Zealand pinewood and has non-toxic finishes. You can't tell from the photo, but it has a two compartment under-drawer for extra storage. The mattress can be adjusted to four different height levels and crib can be converted to a toddler bed or daybed. Keeping in line with Walmart prices, the Olivia crib goes for $299.88.

We also like the coordinating chest of 4-drawers for the same price.

The Olivia collection also includes a changing table, but it's not available for purchase at this time.
Like the crib beddding? It's new to the Walmart line-up. A 4-piece set of the Bubble bedding is $79.98. Definitely check out the other accessories; we're especially fond of the Bubble ceiling light fixture for about $40 (currently out of stock).
I love this. Now where were the affordable modern cribs 3 years ago when I needed one?!

It's so nice that Walmart and Target have stepped up to fill the price gap with affordable and modern nursery furniture. I've had my eye on the "Roxanne" line at Walmart for a while now, but now I'm going to have to check out this "Olivia" line.

Oh and I have to add that 3 years ago I couldn't find a modern crib nor crib sheets under $300 so that I settled for those ugly animal printed crib set from Babys R...oh well.

Don't be fooled. My wife and I purchased this line of furniture for our son's room based on the reviews posted on this website. With the exception of the top and drawer fronts, it is not real wood. The "pine" drawer sides are almost balsa wood. I've put together plenty of IKEA furniture in the past and this is not even close to IKEA quality. It is unstable, weak and is disposable - which is exactly what we will do with it when we move in six months.
Buy something used made of real wood or make the investment and purchase something quality. Don't believe the hype.
