Some babies do it and some don't. What are we talking about? Babies that chew and bite on the crib guard. If your child is into it, you may have looked for something secure and safe to cover and protect the guard rail. We found this fabric crib rail guard protector by Etsy seller New England Quilter.
The guard is made with flannel fabric and quilted on the diagonal. New England Quilter adds two layers of batting for extra softness. Each has 5 buttons to secure the guard to the crib rail. As far as rail guard protectors go, this one is nice looking. You can even contact her directly for a custom order.
GREAT idea. However, I can hardly believe the seller is using small buttons on this thing to secure it. While it probably would never happen, given the buttons are on the outside, it is possible for crazy things to occur and a baby could get a button in its mouth. If I were making these I sure as heck wouldn't want the liability of making a crib items with choking hazards attached. Perhaps the design could/shoud be altered to use velcro to secure it instead.

i second the button comment. i always found it a bit disturbing that buttons are used on baby clothing sometimes, but its OK. lil ones love to chew and suck on things like that!

I had a chewer and looked frantically online for a safe solution that wasn't plastic or ugly -- no luck. Because I can't sew I ultimately bought a bunch of red cotton bandannas (which matched the nursery) and just tied them onto the crib rails. I just matched up the corners between the slats and tied square knots. Needed 12 or so to cover all four rails. Worked like a charm! Baby just turned 1 a bit ago and I took them off.

We just ended up tying the unused crib bumper we had on top of the crib and wrapping it all the way around, tying it around the top rail. It actually looked pretty cute! Our crib back was too tall so we just tucked the end behind the crib. No buttons, no waste on the crib bumpber, and no more teethmarks on the crib.
At about 20 months our son was able to get out of the crib, so we actually went to (gasp, the horror) a crib tent...that also keeps him from biting the crib top rail as well.

We tried to buy a crib tent this weekend at Babys R Us, and was told that they have been pulled on the shelves.
Curious, I did some research on-line and apparently a baby strangled to dead from one this past December. Apparently, there have been a number of deaths associated with crib tents, so I'd be careful of using them!

We did the same as cheekychk and used the crib bumper to keep our beaver baby from destroying our crib. It looks cute and works great!

My friend has a patent pending on this crib rail protector that has no buttons or velcro. It's super cute too :)

i bought a crib rail protector from this etsy seller, she now makes them with button covers. My baby doesn't even know that there are buttons and wouldn't be able to get at them because of the coverings. it works great! i am very happy with this purchase.
