Battery Operated Candles

120709candles.jpgAdding candles to your holiday decor immediately creates that warm, cozy feeling...but with a baby or toddler running around, a bunch of open flames isn't a great idea. Battery-operated candles are a great idea for young families.

At first glance, battery-operated candles may feel a little tacky- kind of like fake flowers. But they've come a long way and you can get them made of real wax, with the look of real dripping wax, but with no worries whatsoever. Is it exactly like real candles? No, but in our opinion, it's worth the trade-off for safety and peace of mind.

You can get a set of three pillar candles here, but we've also seen them in our local TJ Maxx or Marshall's for a lot less money.

I got battery operated pillar candles at Pottery Barn and they are so great. They have a timer on them and go off every day at 5pm and turn off around 9pm. I got these because the kids were spending most of dinner trying to blow out the candles.

I picked up a bunch of the battery operated votives for use in my ceramic Jack-O-lantern candle holders this halloween. For the first time in years I had them lit for hours at a time since there was no worry about pets or kids knocking them over. The ones I bought from the dollar store even flickered & looked like the real thing once placed in a holder. I'm going battery for Christmas too - My kids are thrilled now they can each have a candle holder or two with a "lit" votive in their rooms with no fear of cats knocking them over. Dee

What a wonderful idea...this would be great to have at our house with my toddler.

They're great if you have klutzy cats, too. I'm terrified my kitties will light either a tail or whiskers on fire so I haven't used real candles in years. These are great.

wow. replacing nice, natural candles with toxic batteries and plastic because you REALLY want to have the look of candles but it just doesn't fit into a kid-filled lifestyle... how about replacing your grass with astroturf because your kids keep eating dirt and rocks? c'mon.

this is how we're pooping up the planet folks.
