We love photo mobiles because you can hang anything you want and easily swap out new images. We were reminded to think outside the (photo) box when we saw these cards from a vintage Price Is Right boardgame hanging from Ella McDoniel's mobile.

Ella picked these up in a thrift shop, but maybe you have old games gathering dust in a closet or you can raid your parents' stash. Hanging photo mobile kits are easy to find and usually cost around $15. A few online options are here and here.
Are you using anything unique in your photo mobile? Let us know in the comments.
You can find more fun crafting and family ideas at Ella's blog. She is also a mixed media artist and sells some of her work.
We have counting flash cards in ours! For now our son likes the contrast and in the future we'll use them for learning. Purchased on Etsy.

I made pinwheels out of leftover scraps of my favorite fabrics (thanks to Chickpea Sewing Studio for the tutorial: http://chickpeastudio.typepad.com/chickpea_sewing_studio/2008/01/fabric-pinwheel.html).
During different times of year I also hang seasonal items: Valentine's in February, autumn leaves in the Fall, Christmas cards, etc.

I removed some of the clips and put some vintage alphabet flashcards on mine:

I split my 10 clip photo mobile too into 4 clip and 6 clip mobiles. Then I took IKEA sea creature finger puppets and hung them over our daughter's changing table.

Ha! Someone just purchased a set of my flashcards for the mobile in their childrens' play area. I had to come over and see what they were talking about. Totally cute idea!
