So we've gotten you in the mood to make or buy an advent calendar. But the inevitable question follows - what kind of treats for each day?

In answer to your question, Jordan of Oh Happy Day posted a long list of activities her and her husband try to partake in every day. We chose a few from her list and posted them below. Write your activities out on paper and include in your advent calendar to help you get in the holiday spirit.

Ditto. Most Advent stuffers (kazoos, whistles...) look like stuff I throw away everytime I neaten the house! I like these ideas much better, especially since I have 3 kids and buying 3 identical objects to stuff the advent with for 24 days could get pricey!
We have friends that collect the Lego Advent calendars. Each day you get a piece to add on 'til you've built whatever it is. They keep the ones from previous years & display them all together.

I also like this idea. I do an advent calendar every year and I do not fill it with junk. A few of the items I've used are: gum, stickers, kid tattoos, a quarter or a rolled up dollar, a Christmas tree ornament, a note from Santa or one of the elves.
I will definitely use some of the above ideas this year as well!

I had a German nativity set as a child, with small hand-painted wooden figures. Last year I realized that they are the perfect size for my son's Advent calendar (I have the kind that is basically a wooden box with little numbered doors that open). This year each day my son will open a door, and will unwrap a small figure from the nativity scene. The first few days it will be things like little trees, sheep, donkeys... and the last few days will be the wise men, Mary, Joseph, and finally baby Jesus on Christmas Eve. It will be a special way for me to share a family heirloom, and teach my son the Christmas story.
