Look! Silhouette Cookie Cutters

2008-10-21-silhouette.jpg

Apparently these custom silhouette cookie cutters featured in Martha Stewart Weddings are making quite the splash among future brides, but we think they're a great idea for celebrating kids' birthdays.

The cookie cutters are custom made by Victor Trading Company in Colorado. (Warning: the website isn't particularly user-friendly). You'll need to trace your child's silhouette from a photograph or, for an extra fee, you can send the company a photo of them in profile (see their tips for best results here).

We found a terrific blog, My Sweet and Saucy, by a pastry chef who made bride and groom silhouette cookies this past spring using these custom cutters. She's posted lots of great step-by-step photos of her baking and decorating process. She reports that the cutters are between 4 and 5 inches in height and cost about $35 each.

If anyone makes these for your kids, we'd love to see them!

It's like animal crackers for zombies -- do I start with the brain, or eat the face off first? Hm ... decisions ...

i wonder if they do full body silhouettes? the silhouette of the honored pregnant woman would be great for a baby shower (or weird, come to think of it)
