Monkey Party

Lots of birthdays lately. Did you see Carolyn's first birthday pictures? Lovely.

We have a first birthday to celebrate of our own. Call it newbie mama bravado, but after seeing this adorable Monkey cake (by none other than Ms. Stewart herself), we're ready to get baking.

Appropriately, the recipe calls for ripe bananas among other things. The full recipe is here.

We also found this handy Monkey Party in a Box kit at the newly launched Martha Stewart crafts site.

The $30 kit is all-inclusive for a party of eight. You get plates, cups, forks + spoons, stickers, goodie bags, cupcake toppers and even the invitations.

I just had a "primate" party for my son's first birthday - sock monkeys and other ape friends were the decor. I had planned to make the Martha Stewart monkey head cake, but the recipe never made it to my cake-master cousin and so we settled for the backup plan (a sheet cake from Costco. yawn, I know) and banana cream pies.

I made this cake for my two year old's monkey themed party. It looked and tasted great and the kid's loved it. Very fun theme!
